EXCITED 4 CAREERS in AGRICULTURE
The EXCITED 4 Careers in Agriculture program worked with K–10 students across regional and rural Australia to bring career exploration into the classroom. Through hands-on activities, teachers, parents, and industry professionals supported students to discover their interests, strengths, and values and how these connect to the world of agricultural work. Regional examples from across Australia highlighted locally relevant commodities connecting students to the industries thriving in their own backyard.

Agriculture is a context that can encompass jobs across the full spectrum of career interests and environments as discussed in leading career guidance theory, Holland’s RIASEC model. In many regional locations the agriculture industry is a major source of economic activity and employment. Yet research shows that people in these locations lack knowledge of the diverse opportunities for a rewarding career. This framework links broader careers, personality and environmental factors with professionals vital to the local agricultural industry.
